How to get the most out of your physio sessions :)

make the most out of your physio sessions

As the cliché goes: “There is no I in team.” Physio works best when it’s a two-way process—we can provide expert guidance, but your commitment to the plan plays a huge role in your recovery. This is key to get you back doing what you want to be doing!

So, how can you get the most out of your sessions and get back to doing what you love as quickly as possible?

1. Come Prepared

To get the best treatment plan for you, it helps to come in with a good understanding of your symptoms. Before your appointment, think about:
✔ When did the pain or issue start?
✔ What makes it better or worse?
✔ Have you had previous injuries or treatments?

Bringing a list of questions or concerns can help make the most of your time with us.

2. Be Honest About Your Pain and Symptoms

Your physio needs accurate information to create the best plan. If you're skipping exercises, experiencing unexpected pain, or struggling with motivation, let them know—they're here to help, not judge!

3. Follow Your Home Exercise Plan

Call it bad business sense, but we don’t want you to keep coming back for the same thing.
Your home exercises are
key to getting better and staying better.

It’s easy to forget them sometimes, so try these tips:
✔ Set reminders on your phone.
✔ Link exercises to an existing habit (e.g., after brushing your teeth).
✔ Track your progress in a notebook or app.

Struggling to fit them in? Tell your physio. We’ll adjust your plan to make it work for you.

4. Ask Questions

We want you to leave feeling like a new and improved version of yourself, but that only happens when you understand your injury and rehab plan.
If something doesn’t make sense—
ask!
No question is too small, and we’d rather you ask than guess.

5. Be Patient and Consistent

There’s nothing more satisfying than getting back to exercising, playing, and moving well. Helping people do this is why most of us became physios in the first place—it’s our bread and butter, what we thrive on, and what we love doing.

But healing takes time. Some injuries improve quickly, while others require weeks or months of effort. Trust the process, celebrate small wins, ask lots of questions and and stick with it and you'll get there.

6. Move Between Sessions

Your rehab isn’t just about what happens in the clinic.
The small things you do every day—
how you sit, how you move, how you recover—make a big difference.
Staying active in ways that feel comfortable (e.g., gentle walking, swimming, stretching)
can speed up your recovery (along with getting your rehab done obviously).
Not sure what’s safe to do?
Ask your physio.

7. Prioritise Follow-Ups

We book your sessions to keep your recovery on track and make sure you’re improving as effectively as possible.
Skipping or cancelling appointments can throw off the plan and slow things down.
So, set yourself a reminder and
stick with it—your body will thank you!

Even if you start feeling better, follow-up sessions help fine-tune your rehab and make sure you’re back to full strength.
If you play sport, we’ll tailor your rehab to
match your movements—whether it’s football, netball, rugby, tennis, surfing, or running—so you can get back out there safely and avoid re-injury.

The Bottom Line

Physio works best when you’re actively involved. We’re here to guide you, but you’re in the driver’s seat.
The more engaged you are, the better (and faster) your results will be.
