When to come in for some help?
When to come in for treatment?
So you've done yourself a little mischief? It's just a tweak, it'll be alright.....?
Sometimes it's actually really hard to know if you were just overdoing it and will settle in a day or so, or whether you need to get onto it straight away before it gets significantly worse.
Well, it's certainly something we see and have patients ask about all the time. There are no hard rules unfortunately as everyone and every injury is different, however here are some 'loose' guidelines.
1). If it's bruised or swollen- come in.
Bruising and swelling is the body's response to tissue damage. This is a good protective mechanism for a day or so, but if it's lasting longer than that it will actually slow down your recovery if you don't get it sorted.
2). Can't put your weight on your injured ankle/knee foot?
If it's in you lower limb (hip/knee, ankle & foot) and at the time of injury (or afterwards) you really don't or can't properly put your weight through it, then definitely come in.
3). If you wake up a day after doing more than your usual exercise, or a different work out and are a little stiff and sore, you can probably see how this plays out over a day or two -it will possibly just be tired muscles from using them more (or differently) than you have been.
4). Back and neck pain, if it's not starting to get better after 2-3 days then come in, and especially if it's getting progressively worse- come in.
5). Pins and needles, numbness that is going further down your arm or leg and doesn't go away if you move (i.e not you normal dead arm if lying funny).
A brief little list, but hopefully gives you a little guidance about when to pop in, or if unsure at all, then just give us a call and we can arrange one of our team give you a quick call.
